If you've ever watched kitesurfers gliding through the waves with the wind in their kites, then you know what pure magic looks like. The thrill, the freedom, the connection with nature – it's all incredibly addictive. And you know what? You can learn it too! Whether you're a complete beginner to water sports or already have some experience on the water, we're here to help you master this exciting sport here on Sal at Ponta Preta Beach, Cape Verde.
Our winter at the Ponta Preta Beach
In general, our island of Sal is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. The steady trade winds, warm water and breathtaking beaches create the perfect playground for us kitesurfers. The conditions here are ideal for both beginners and experienced kiters, especially in the winter months from October to May. At our Ponta Preta beach in particular, you will find plenty of space to practise, and our kite community is friendly and helpful.
Imagine gliding over turquoise waves, the sun warming your skin and the wind propelling your kite. It's not just a sport, it's an experience that connects you deeply with the sea and the sky. And with the right guidance, you too will be kitesurfing confidently on the waves in no time.
We know what we're doing and we're good at what we do – we're never looking for the ‘next kite superstar’; we want you to have fun and, yes, some of you will learn faster than others, but as a rule, we're all learning at the same pace – so don't stress and let's enjoy our time together in and on the water...
KITE BASIC: Come learn with us!
Getting started with kitesurfing can seem overwhelming, but don't worry! We've broken down everything you need to learn into manageable steps. This makes a big difference and gets you safely to your goal. Together, we always start with the basics, because that's what's most important to us. We often hear from our guests that after a basic course, they still feel unsure about setting up the kite or knowing which lines belong to which side of the kite. Activating the safety system is also often unclear. That's why we take the time to familiarise you thoroughly with the equipment. You will not only learn about the kite, but also the bar, the safety system and the board. This understanding is crucial!
Afterwards, we continue directly on the beach, practising flying the kite together. Here you will get a feel for the wind and see how the kite reacts to your movements. These first steps are important for safely developing your skills before we venture into the water together.
Once you feel comfortable with the kite, we will head into the water together. Now you will learn the essential self-rescue techniques, such as body dragging, both with and without a board. Safety is our top priority! It is crucial that you know how to get back to shore safely in case of a problem.

Next, it's time to master the supreme discipline: water starting on the sea. Once you've managed to stand up on the board, your posture and balance are crucial. Keep your knees slightly bent, your weight centred and your gaze directed forwards. This posture will help you stay stable and react quickly. Wind direction and strength also influence your riding behaviour.
We know that many of you have already seen in the pictures how important your safety is to us when kitesurfing. In addition to safety ropes, we also use walkie-talkies to ensure that you feel completely comfortable at every stage of your learning process. Your sense of safety is very important to us!
These aids not only offer you additional protection, but also the opportunity to stay in contact with us at all times and to clarify any questions immediately. Together, we want to ensure that you can confidently find your own way on the water.
